The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo

Tweet Your Way to a Stay at The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo

Located in the tallest building in the city, The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo offers guests an understated and luxurious environment high above the hustle and bustle of Roppongi’s trendy Tokyo Midtown complex.
I recently had the pleasure of a relaxing one night retreat from my daily life and thanks to the generosity of The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo you too can relax your cares away while pondering the your own private view of Tokyo’s impressive nighttime skyline, but let me tell you more about the hotel first…
Ritz-Carlton Tokyo Hotel Japan Lobby
The lobby of The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo sits on the 45th floor and is a peaceful oasis unto itself – modern flower arrangements grace the large lobby tables and a pianist plays classical music for patrons partaking of afternoon tea.  For those looking to imbibe in something a little stronger the lobby bar is located beyond an infinity pool and fountain that will wash away any stress that you may be harboring.
Also off the lobby is French restaurant, Forty Five, and Hinokizaka, specializing in Japanese cuisine, both with lovely views of the city. I sipped champagne and dined on Le Menu at Forty Five while overlooking Tokyo Tower on a rare haze-free summer day in the city and enjoyed both the food and the view tremendously!
If you are looking for space, the rooms at The Ritz Carleton Tokyo have plenty to spare.  All the rooms in the hotel feature “standard” marble bathrooms that are the size of many Tokyo apartments, featuring two well appointed vanities, a luxurious tub, and even a television!
A small desk, two comfortable sitting chairs and another television grace the room where the star is the bed itself covered with luxurious Frette linens and pillows that beckon you to a relaxing nights sleep or simply a short nap.    Privacy shades and room darkening curtains ensure that the level of light is to your liking at all times and can be changed and the touch of a button from conveniently placed bedside controls.
I suggest that you borrow one of the great pillows from the well appointed bed and perch on the comfortably wide window ledge to watch the sun set over Tokyo.  As the city lights begin to twinkle and the sun sets behind Mount Fuji and Roppongi Hills, Shinjuku or the Imperial Palace, take it all in before heading down for dinner in the hotel or at one of the many great restaurants in Tokyo Midtown.
Upon your return, you will be greeted by a plush terry robe, bedside slippers, a chocolate on your pillow, some complimentary water and a perfectly turned down bed where you can dream the night away high above the city.

The Burj Khalifa Of Dubai

The Burj Khalifa Of Dubai

The most significant chapter in the Dubai story is the Burj. After writing on Dubai for so long I find a compulsion of saying a few words about this landmark. The few words are quite lengthy considering the subject is the tallest structure. This perhaps is the only claim that others will not be able to refute. The tallest man made structure of the world. Other claims about the largest Mall or the longest this or biggest that is subject which are regularly discussed and debated at the cocktail parties. But this one is a definitive statement and above everyone’s doubt! This was also a happy moment for thousands of professionals and skilled workers from around the world worked on this once-in-a-lifetime project. Unfortunately most of them were not present in Dubai at this time of ceremonial inauguration.
January 4, 2010 is the date that will make the residents of the emirate of Dubai proud for generations to come. The world's tallest tower, developed by Emaar Properties, was unveiled to a crowd of thousands on ground and millions around the world in a crescendo of fireworks, lasers and fountain displays that lit up the Dubai nightscape.
A secret that was so closely guarded for so many years was flashed onto a giant screen before an estimated crowd of about 400,000.

The Burj Dubai was unveiled as 'Burj Khalifa' named after the ruler of Abu Dhabi, who had just proved recently that a “friend in need is a friend indeed”. The official height of the tower was announced as 828 meters (2,716.5 ft).

You've probably slept in a hotel room in more than one occasion. You've probably slept in at least one pretty weird, cheap, campy or luxury hotel room as well. But we doubt that you have ever slept in one of these amazingly weird hotel rooms.

The Burj Dubai; The Air traffic

A few days back I took the metro to go to the bank and once inside the NRI (Non Resident Indian) section I was quite astonished to see a brand new advertisement on display. It has used a metro station as the symbol of Dubai while the Taj Mahal remained the emblem of India. This actually opens up an interesting topic of finding a permanent symbol for a city which is changing so fast and so much.
I have observed quite a few symbols that signified Dubai over the past few years. The two most popular of all has been the Dubai Creek Golf Club and the Burj Al Arab. While the golf club found its place in the twenty (20) Dirham currency bill, the Burj Al Arab could be noticed in the car license plates. But soon new contenders to take the pride of symbolizing Dubai started to appear in the fast changing horizons of the Dubai sky while the earlier ones struggled to retain their positions with their share of diehard admirers. There are plenty of iconic structures, but the most famous ones which may rightfully lay their claim for the exclusive right to symbolize the city are as follows: The Dubai Creek Golf Club; The Burj Al Arab; The Emirates towers; The Burj Dubai; The Air traffic control tower; the new airport building; the metro stations.
Can you think of anything else? Probably you can!

The clubhouse of the Dubai Creek Golf Club is the first structure which almost singlehandedly brought Dubai to the International map of iconic structures. Architect Brain Johnson founded a Firm GAJ (Godwin, Austen and Johnson) in the late Eighties and is responsible for the design of this club house building. He has ushered in an era of iconic building where designers from around the world fought to come up with a representation of traditional Arabic style transformed into modern structures... Old - meets - new technique.

The Burj Al Arab, whose literal meaning in Arabic is Tower of the Arabs is a luxury hotel located on an artificial island out from Jumeirah beach, and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. Standing at 321 m (1,050 ft) it happens to be one of the tallest hotel buildings in the world. This Building shaped like a sail boat is the forerunner of all the iconic structures that followed.
Burj Dubai, which literally means Dubai Tower in Arabic, is a mighty skyscraper under construction on the Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai. Presently it is the tallest man-made structure ever built (818 m/ 2,684 ft).

The Emirates towers which are located on the Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai are my personal favorites. This complex contains the Emirates Office Tower and Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel. These two towers which rise to 355 meters (1,163 ft) and 309 meters (1,014 ft), respectively are considered among the tallest skyscrapers of the world.
